Make fractions finally make sense with Frax
Request a DemoWithout a grasp on fractions, students will significantly struggle in algebra and advanced math. In fact, knowledge of fractions at the end of grade 5 is a unique predictor of high school math success, even after controlling for other variables like knowledge of whole numbers, IQ, working memory, reading comprehension, family income, and educational levels.
Frax stops the fraction struggle through an adaptive, game-based system that helps grade 3+ students build a conceptual understanding of fractions. Frax’s zero-entry program allows all students to improve their fractions knowledge and build confidence as they complete carefully scaffolded missions.
Frax promotes understanding rather than rote memorization.
Rather than skimming a multitude of math skills on the surface, Frax is 100% focused on fractions, allowing students to benefit from the most focused and purposeful instruction. For the best results, teachers should use Frax before starting their fractions unit to propel learning and lay strong foundations.Frax… | |

Frax brings evidence-based results
Research shows that the strongest success occurs when students understand fractions using the number line as a central representation tool. Frax incorporates intuitive visual representations (like length models) to introduce the number line representation of a fraction. As students progress through Frax, they develop an essential understanding of fraction magnitude and number sense.
When students use Frax, they experience gains in fraction understanding and overall math performance. ESSA Tier 2 research found that students who used Frax were significantly more likely to reach or exceed grade-level math proficiency in the spring, regardless of fall achievement levels. A separate study found that students who used Frax were 1.9x more likely to meet typical math growth goals and 2.5x more likely to reach stretch goals compared to non-users.
Targeted, adaptive instruction for grades 3+
Along their Frax journey, students progress through missions grouped by Sectors that align to elementary grade-level fractions standards. Frax missions are structured as game-based challenges, allowing students to learn by doing as they progress through scaffolded instruction and receive just-in-time feedback.
Sector 1: Students journey through 27 missions as they develop a strong understanding of fractions as numbers. Targets topics typically addressed in grade 3.
Sector 2: After completing Sector 1, students unlock 30 new missions in Sector 2, where they expand their knowledge to fractions equivalency and early fractions arithmetic. Targets topics typically addressed in grade 4.
Sector 3: This NEW Sector allows students to use the foundations built in Sectors 1 and 2 to navigate new worlds and develop a strong mastery of grade 5 fraction arithmetic. Targets topics typically addressed in grade 5.
Frax is fun!
With Frax, fractions don’t feel like work! Students meet space ferrets, bots, and other animals in the fractions galaxy as they complete challenges to develop a foundational knowledge of fractions. Students stay motivated with frequent rewards and personalized features, like custom avatars, spaceship cabins, the Happy Acres Space Farm, and more.
And with Frax Competitions, students in one classroom can face off against other classes in a school for amped-up fractions engagement, fun rivalry, and increased motivation!
Frax supports teachers and administrators.
Frax is easy to implement, making it an ideal tool for veteran teachers, new educators, or substitutes in the classroom. Frax also includes offline resources to reinforce and assess learning. Captain's Checkpoints provide students with additional practice using the skills they learned in Frax missions. These collaborative activities allow students to talk about fractions, reflect on how their thinking is similar or different from others, and discover new strategies from their peers. Frax Quick Checks provide short questions to assess student learning from a Frax mission (perfect for task cards or an exit ticket).
Frax also includes intuitive and powerful reporting for administrators and teachers to monitor student usage and celebrate progress. Frax data is available through individual and classroom reports. Teachers can print customizable student certificates to celebrate math milestones and increase classroom motivation.
When using Frax, teachers are supported with:
- Live and pre-recorded professional development
- Online and offline resources
- Digital learning communities
- …and more!

Everybody's Talking About Frax
“Frax is by far the best program I have seen for fractions. Even the kids who experience math challenges seem to ‘get’ fractions. Now, when any fraction-related math comes up in our lessons, they all seem to know the correct answer.”
–Teacher“Frax is win-win for the students and the teacher! I was thrilled with the high level of engagement I saw. I was even more impressed when I would check for understanding, and students were grasping fraction concepts that had been difficult in prior years for students. I really like how much practice students are getting with the number line representation of fractions. Frax has made a positive impact on how I will teach fractions from now on!”
–Curriculum coordinator and teacher“My kids absolutely love Frax! Their abilities vary, but ALL my students feel success with Frax. They have a much better grasp on fractions overall, and it has really made a difference in what we are able to do in class.”
