Adaptive and game-based, ExploreLearning Frax uses the latest research and instructional methods to create a better way to learn fractions. Students (grades 3+) embark on a space-themed journey packed with engaging games and motivating rewards to develop a strong conceptual understanding of fractions.
Aboard the F.F.S. Sable spaceship, users interact with a crew of space ferrets, bots, and other animals in the fractions galaxy. Now, fractions engagement soars to new heights with personalized Frax avatars.
How can students customize their Frax avatars?
With the new Frax Avatar Builder, students can customize their own ferret character to appear with the crew. Students can select various face, hair, fur, body, and clothing styles for one-of-a-kind looks.
Students can access the Avatar Builder from the Hallway (behind the Rooms door). After setting their custom appearance, the student’s avatar will appear on the Frax Bridge and in the Student Cabin. Students can return to Avatar Builder as often as they want to make changes.
How does Frax engage students with fractions instruction?
Math engagement is vital since fractions knowledge significantly impacts future math and algebraic understanding. These new personalized avatars provide students with increased choice and ownership of their fractions journey, helping them stay motivated as they complete Frax missions on the Galaxy Map. But the engagement doesn’t stop there.
With Frax, fractions no longer feel like work but a fun, interactive adventure where students actively experience success. Missions are structured as game-based challenges, allowing students to learn by doing as they progress through carefully scaffolded instruction. Using adaptive learning, enticing visuals, customization, music, and tokens for effort and progress, Frax engages students every step of the way on the road to fractions success.
In a recent qualitative study, elementary teachers found that Frax significantly increased math engagement and fractions knowledge, citing Frax’s game-driven learning, frequent rewards, personalization, and interactivity as particularly engaging aspects for learners.
