Complete the Fractions Journey with Offline Activities in Frax
Teachers know that one strategy doesn’t cement learning for all students. That’s why it’s essential to scaffold strategies as a framework for success. Frax has the building blocks students need to stop the fractions struggle! This game-based and adaptive system meets students where they are, then progresses them forward as understanding and skills improve. But Frax doesn’t stop there! Our Captain’s Checkpoints, which continue the story-driven quest for fractions in the galaxy outside the Frax platform, solidify that new knowledge for critical grounding in those fraction skills. Frax uses the latest research-based instructional methods for a better way to teach and learn fractions.
What are Captain’s Checkpoints?
Are you looking for tools and ideas to maintain student engagement for Frax through paper-based activities and discussions that match the work students see while using the online portion of Frax? We’ve got you covered! Frax offline activities are called Captain’s Checkpoints. Students complete online, interactive missions with fractions as part of their Fraxionaut training, moving up in rank and earning trophies for accomplishments. After a series of those missions, it’s time to stop and complete a Captain's Checkpoint (offline activity) with the class. These offline activities involve group discussions to reinforce concepts the students learned with detailed plans and printable resources. Student discussions help to solidify learning. Each Teacher Guide includes Mission debrief questions. These prompts help to steer the discourse with students and ensure success with Frax offline activities. Involvement, reflection, and discussion unblock the path to student confidence and success. Pair the online learning experience with complementary offline activities to break through the barriers of learning and understanding fractions!
Where can I find them?
Just look for Captain’s Checkpoints located in the Teacher Guide of the Frax dashboard! In each Captain’s Checkpoint, there’s access to everything you’ll need to continue the journey to understanding fractions. Instructions, presentations, printables– it’s all there!
How about some more tools to stop the fractions struggle?
Consistency is key for students. When teachers use the same terminology and understand the flow of the game-based instruction in Frax, the lessons are cohesive and meaningful as they work through the program, both online and off.
